For Ward 7 in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the political party and the candidates to support come 2023 General Elections have been unanimously chosen.
Accordingly, the ward, which is thickly populated in Uyo, the state capital city, with 11 villages and 46 polling units, has adopted the Young Progressives Party, YPP and its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) to support come next year’s election.
The ward has also adopted the party’s senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo), Rt. Hon. Barr. Usenobong Akpabio; candidate for Uyo Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ekemini Ukim and candidate for Uyo State Constituency, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Hon. Imo Okon. The ward promised to give them unflinching support to emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.
At a massive gathering of stakeholders of the Ward, made up of stalwarts of YPP, political chieftains from various parties, Elder Statesmen, women and youths; a motion was formally moved, endorsing Senator Albert for governor and other candidates, amidst thunderous ovation at the event held at the premises of Cooperative Hall, Ibiaku Offot, near the main campus of University of Uyo (UNIUYO) on Sunday.
Moving the motion, a chieftain of YPP in Ward 7, Hon Tony Ukpe, said having witnessed the deteriorating economic woes in Akwa Ibom – the alarming poverty rate and the need to entrust the leadership of the State in the next political dispensation into the hands of an experienced, vibrant and people-oriented candidate; the most qualified and competent among the candidates, who will change the narratives is Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.

The chairman of YPP, Ward 7, Hon Elvis Emekobong, who seconded the motion, said Senator Albert will banish the festering poverty in Akwa Ibom and ensure that the people feel the impact of governance as it should be in the ward, local government and the whole State.
Attendees at the meeting, which was convened to engage electorates on ‘Voter Education,’ gave affirmation to the motion, on grounds that Senator Albert is a well tested public official, who has consistently served the people meritoriously.
Earlier in his speech, YPP’s senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North East (UYO), Rt. Hon. Barr Usenobong Akpabio reiterated that OBA is divinely chosen to liberate Akwa Ibom from poverty and economic strangulation.
Barr Akpabio, a former two-term member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, lamented the rate of poverty in Akwa Ibom and urged the people to be resolute in supporting Senator Albert for him to emerge the governor come May 29, 2023, stressing that OBA will surely provide the right leadership that Akwa Ibom people earnestly desire in the next dispensation.
Also speaking, candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, Hon. Ekemini Ukim and the candidate for Uyo State Constituency, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Imo Okon affirmed that the party – YPP, will do well for Uyo and Akwa Ibom State in general and encouraged the people to support the party fully in the forthcoming polls.
The political leader of Ward 7 and a renowned political juggernaut, Obong Enefiok Ekefre assured the people of ward 7 and Akwa Ibomites generally, that the much desired people-oriented leadership will be provided by Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) once he comes into office on May 29, 2023.
“We have every reason to rejoice that there is someone God has prepared to salvage the people and the State and that is Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA). I know him and can speak authoritatively about OBA as a dynamic and very competent person who will govern Akwa Ibom and bring about the much-anticipated development and empowerment,” Ekefre stated.

He listed severally human-related programmes; Senator Albert has floated for years for the people – touching on financial and car empowerment, scholarship and skill training, as well as bills that have been passed into laws through which the nation has gained economic fortunes.
