Akwa Ibom @34: Senator Albert Felicitates With Gov Emmanuel and The people

...Calls For Continued Cooperation Towards State Development

As Akwa Ibom State marks her 34th anniversary of state creation, the Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources Upstream, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan has felicitated with Governnor Udom Emmanuel and the people.

In a goodwill message titled, “Akwa Ibom @ 34: Celebrating Vision, Growth And Boundless Prospects, Senator Albert stated that every September 23 comes with unparalleled significance in the lives of the people considering the long years of agitation by our forebears for the state.

“Our joy is deepened by the ever refreshing recollections of the foresights, heroic exploits, tenacious and embedded sense of communality exuded by our forebears in championing the State until it was created on September 23, 1987.

“What is more, the birth of Akwa Ibom State exactly 20 years after the first creation exercise in 1967 and 60 years after our forebears envisioned the idea in 1927, further accentuates the significance of the anniversary,” he stated.

According to Senator Albert, who represents Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, “Akwa Ibom’s creation as Nigeria’s 21st State berthed our long desired political identity within the Nigerian Federation as well as set in motion socio-economic development as evident in our continuing journey of statehood.”

“As we mark the 34th anniversary, we owe ourselves a duty to reflect on and imbibe the selflessness, oneness and sacrifices evident in the lives of the great men and women in our political history who toiled to bequeath to us the Akwa Ibom State that we now have and cherish. It demands therefore that we must continue on that set path by putting the interests of the State first and foremost at all times.

“Going forward, we must reinvent a united front – from the leadership to the stakeholders, nay the people to broaden our perspectives on all aspects of development so as to achieve a better and prosperous society for the now and the future,”

He expressed happiness that the our journey as a state has so far has been worthwhile, demanding that we offer our wholehearted appreciation to the Almighty God for the abiding grace upon Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Albert, who is the Leader of the Akwa Ibom Caucus in the National Assembly, commended “successive leaderships of our State from 1987 till date for their commitment in giving meaning to the state creation exercise by laying solid foundation towards the wellbeing and development of Akwa Ibom State namely: Tunde Ogbeha; Godwin Abbe; Idongesit Nkanga; Akpan Isemin; Yakubu Bako; Joseph Adeusi; John Ebiye; Victor Attah and Godswill Akpabio.”

He also specifically applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for consolidating on the performances of past leaders as well as accelerating the tempo of development as so far witnessed in the state.

Senator Albert emphasized that whatever our current successes and the challenges we may face at the present, “a future with boundless prospects surely beckons. We must therefore, more than ever, work together with abiding faith in God, to build the State and empower our people.”

“We must leverage on our enormous natural and human resources to attain our desired goals and aspirations as much as possible.”
