IGR: Uyo Council Chairman Commends Legislative Council For Expeditious Consideration Of Revenue Bills

The Executive Chairman, Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has appreciated the councillors in Uyo for the expeditious consideration of the Executive Bills that were forwarded to the legislative council.

Dr. Udo gave the commendation at a one day public hearing on bills for development-based Bye-laws in Uyo Local Government Area, organised by the 7th Uyo Local Government Legislative Council.

In his keynote address, the executive chairman, who promised to implement the Bye-laws for the overall good of Uyo people and residents of Uyo also pledged his commitment at ensuring that revenues generated are judiciously used towards the growth and development of the local government.

The Uyo council boss urged all invited stakeholders to take a critical look at the proposed Bye-Laws and forward their contributions and observations to the legislative arm within stipulated time for necessary amendments.

On his part, the Leader of the 7th Uyo Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong assured business owners within Uyo Local Government Area that the Bye-laws will take into consideration, the prevailing economic situations in Nigeria.

He noted that the Bye-laws will improve the well-being of the people of Uyo Local Government immensely and assist the government at the local level to deliver on its electoral mandate of good and responsive governance while assuring the residents of making reasonable, relevant and enforceable bye-laws.

Invited guests also took their turns to speak on the proposed bills and promised to play their parts in ensuring maximum co-operation with the constituted authority as at when due.

The revenue byelaws when enacted into law shall provide the local government with a legal framework for effective and enhanced revenue generation activities following the dwindling financial fortunes of the local government from the federation account.

The Bills under consideration by the legislative council include; A bill for a Byelaw for Development Rate for Uyo Local Government Council, 2021; A bill for a Byelaw for General Rate in Uyo LGC, 2021;  A bill for a Byelaw for Radio and Television Licenses/Communication Masts in Uyo LGC, 2021; A bill for a Byelaw for Naming of Roads/Streets etc, Road Closure and Naming of Houses in Uyo LGC, 2021; and A bill for a Byelaw for Tenement Rate in Uyo LGC, 2021.

Others are, A bill for a Byelaw for Customary Right of Occupancy in Uyo LGC, 2021; A bill for a Byelaw for Outdoor Advertisement and Hoarding in Uyo LGC, 2021; A bill for a Byelaw for Hawking and Street Trading Permit in Uyo LGC, 2021;  A bill for a Byelaw for Liquor License in Uyo LGC, 2021; A bill for a Byelaw for Shops and Kiosks/Licensing Fee in Uyo LGC, 2021;A bill for a Byelaw for Market (Establishment, Maintenance and Control) in Uyo LGC, 2021 and A bill for a Byelaw for Environmental Sanitation and Prohibition of Indiscriminate dumping of Refuse, Silts and Other Environmental Health Offences in Uyo LGC, 2021.

The event was well attended by Executive Cabinet Members, Legislators, and Stakeholders in Uyo Local Government Area, Corporate Bodies, and business operators, representative of the Civil Liberty Organisation and concerned members of the public.
