Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Holds Cancer Awareness Walk

The Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Rivers State branch has organised a cancer awareness campaign to educate the public on the need to embark on health checks against all forms of cancer.
Speaking to Oil mil Market women, the President of the association, Dr Ibimonye Porbeni said that cancer is not a death sentence when detected early advised the women to regularly engage in self breast examination at least every month, especially 2 to 3 days after the monthly period.
“Breast and Cervical Cancer are preventable, awareness is key, if you are not aware,how are you going to prevent the condition?. Cancer is a problem and early awareness and detection saves life”, she maintained.
Enumerating the importance of women in homes she advised them not to allow cancer to cut short their lives by preventing the menace and getting vaccinated against Cervical Cancer which according to her is available in most hospitals.
On her path, the immediate past President of the Association, Dr Rosemary Ogu urged women not to wait until they develop symptoms before going for cancer screening adding that breast and cervical cancer are preventable.
The cancer awareness walk which was targeted at oil mil market women commenced from Shell residential area on Aba Road axis of Port-Harcourt to the popular Oil mil Market also featured lectures and counseling on Cervical and Prostate Cancer.
