…Applauds Gov Emmanuel, AKISIEC For Ensuring Peaceful LG Elections
The Oku Ibom Ibibio and chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk has reiterated the commitment of traditional rulers across the country to the unity, peace, security and progress of Nigeria.
The Akwa Ibom premier royal father stated this at the Victor Attah International Airport on Saturday, shortly after his arrival from Abuja, where he went to attend an emergency meeting of the national executive committee of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) which was held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Area II, Abuja
The patriarch of Ibibio explained that the national council, under the chairmanship the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and co-chaired by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, met in Abuja to deliberate on the current situation in the country.
Dr Etuk explained that the traditional rulers, drawn from all parts of Nigeria, mostly heads of their state’s traditional council, gathered in Abuja, to discuss the happenings in the country, compare notes and made useful suggestions on how to move the nation forward against the backdrop of recent happenings.
According to him, it was consequent upon their deliberations as a council that they later met with the President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with some recommendations to move the nation forward.

“As you know, we are the custodians of the culture and traditions of the people. We are nearer to the people and we know those things that can help to bring peace and harmony. When every community is peaceful, then the states and the entire nation can be in peace. It is only when there is peace and harmony that development can thrive in the country.
“Our meeting with the president was quite fraternal. We are the fathers of the nation. We have a role to play and from time to time we meet at that level to preview the situations in the country and make suggestions necessary to instill love, unity, harmony and progress,” he added.
The Oku Ibom Ibibio used the opportunity to commend Governor Udom Emmanuel for his peaceful disposition which he noted, has gone a long way to engender peace in Akwa Ibom State.
“I am happy that Akwa Ibom State is always a reference point whenever the subject of peace and tranquility is discussed anywhere. This could not have been possible without the humble and peaceful mien of the governor and his cooperation with the traditional rulers in the state,” he added.
Dr Etuk commended Governor Emmanuel and the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for the peaceful conduct of the just concluded local government elections in the state and charged all elected chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors to be prepared to serve their respective councils sincerely.
