Oku Ibom Tasks Village Heads on Quality Leadership, Meaningful Development

...Hosts Strategic Dialogue to Strengthen Community Ties in Nsit Ubium

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of the Akwa Ibom Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, JP, CFR, has held an interactive forum with village heads in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area in line with his commitment towards grassroots development.

The gathering, held on Friday, December 10, 2024, in his Palace, was aimed at galvanizing quality leadership, sharing of positive ideas, conflict resolution and highlighting key factors of community development – which marked a significant step forward in Oku Ibom Ibibio’s ongoing efforts to build virile communities, promote unity and improve the lives of the people.

In his capacity as the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium LGA, Oku Ibom Ibibio, in his address, emphasized the need for exemplary leadership among village heads. He urged them to adhere to the highest standards of integrity, ethics and decorum that befits their esteemed positions as custodians of tradition and culture of the people.

Speaking in Ibibio language, he said “Ukarà iduñg, mmé ukarà obió, idohó taap ikpoñg fruuk àbaak” literally meaning “Strategic and effective leadership is not a child’s play. It’s not so easily accomplished but can only be attained through a painstaking routine and commitment.”

According to premier Royal father, Village heads must be broadminded, have to carry people along in management of the affairs of their communities, avoid being self-centered, eschew deception at all cost, preach perseverance, unity and love among their subjects at all times.

He added that, by doing so, they would not only dignify their offices but also serve as inspirational role models, fostering a culture of excellence and responsibility within their respective communities.

The Supreme monarch further implored the village heads to support the ARISE Agenda, the development blueprint of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who is their son.

He highlighted the importance of diligent stewardship and safeguarding of government properties within their respective communities.

Ntenyin Etuk also made a clarion call to community leaders, charging them to prioritize self-development through educational advancement, as a vital catalyst for personal growth and community transformation.

The Clan Head of Ubium, His Highness, Etebom Ukpong Udoewah and the Village Head of Ikot Ekpene Udo, Eteidung Udousoro Usoro, collectively commended the Oku Ibom Ibibio for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of royal fathers and his efforts in creating a platform for exchange of knowledge.

They also acknowledged his commitment in fostering peace, unity and community development.
