PDP Governors Move To Douse Party’s Leadership Crisis

The leadership crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) may soon be amicably being resolved as Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are meeting in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

Informed sources at the meeting on Monday, August 09, 2021, said deliberations may continue on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 as the Governors may back an early convocation of a national convention to elect new officers for the PDP, which is the main opposition in the country.

Insiders said the meeting held at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro District, Abuja, was however inconclusive as issues raised needed to be holistically addressed, a development that necessitated a continuation of the meeting on Tuesday to enable them finalise their deliberations and take a stand.

It could be recalled that Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, had on Sunday, August 08, 2021 sent out the notice of the meeting to his colleagues.

The convening of the meeting came on the heels of the forum’s recent appeal for calm over the leadership crisis rocking the party.

It was learnt that after several hours of deliberations during which Prince Uche Secondus was later invited apparently to state his case, the meeting was thereafter deferred till Tuesday to enable it to take a final stand.

Gov Tambuwal told anxious reporters who besieged the meeting venue that they (Governors) deliberated on current issues concerning and confirmed the adjournment to Tuesday.

According to him, the Governors are working to ensure that all disagreements are resolved.

He said, “We discussed extensively on matters of the moment concerning our party and we have collectively resolved to continue to work together in unity.

“This meeting will continue tomorrow (Tuesday) with other stakeholders.

“Very soon, Nigerians and indeed, all of you will hear our resolution but we are working towards resolving all issues, as a family. By the grace of God, we are going to achieve that.”

Present at the meeting were Governors Oluseyi Makinde (Oyo), Wike (Rivers), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

Other Governors are Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
