Reactivate Moribund Industries

I commend Governor Udom Emmanuel for gradually moving Akwa Ibom State from a civil service oriented economy to an era of industrialisation. I am pleased that industries are springing up in the State and there is hope for more.

However, while establishing new industries, government should also think of reactivating moribund ones.
It would be recalled that industries inherited from the former Cross River State were Champion Breweries, Plasto Crown and Autopak in Uyo, Quality Ceramic in Itu, Sunshine Batteries and biscuit factory in Ikot Ekpene and Qua Steel in Eket.

At a point in the history of the State all the listed industries collapsed.
But thanks to the former Governor Victor Attah Administration which reactivated the Champion Breweries in 2001 and the company has been running to date and is the pride of Akwa Ibom State.

I pray government should seriously consider reactivating the listed industries while also setting up new ones.
For example, the ceramic industry would have greatly boosted the fortunes of Akwa Ibom State given the high demand for the products in the construction sector of the economy. Moreover, the raw material is readily available in the State.

The biscuit factory should also be considered for reactivation.

Ime Ukpong,
Itu.
