Reintroduce School Sports

Nigeria seems to be facing a dearth of great athletes to make the nation proud. I think the solution to it is to reintroduce school sports. Athogh the Akwa Ibom State government recently introduced local government sports festival which is a good development.

However, school sports will have a much more impact to catch them young..
I remember that in the former Cross River State their used to be Chronicle Cup, a football competition among secondary schools. Through the completion, great footballers were discovered and many of them went on to play for the national team such as Etokebe and Etim Esin.

Many professional club such as the then Rovers of Calabar picked players from the competition.

A secondary sports competition will serve as a reservoir of talents for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
