Senator Albert Lifts Akwa Ibom Female Youths To Empower More Women

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan has reiterated his commitment towards the continuous empowerment of women in the senatorial district and beyond.

Senator Albert, popularly called OBA, said that empowerment of women is germane to the overall development of the society – the reason he has consistently in all his empowerment programmes vis-à-vis educational and financial support ensured that women are enlisted as beneficiaries.

Speaking in his goodwill message as special guest at the 5th Anniversary Celebration of the Female Youths Association (Purple Girls) with the theme, “Celebrating the help of God” held at the Ibom Hall Ground, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Saturday, Senator Albert applauded the leadership of the group for their vision and steadfastness over the years.

He commended the female youth president for utilizing God’s gift to touch people’s lives positively in her generation and charged her to hold on to God for He alone is capable of fulfilling His plans for her.

“I am happy that as you mark five years of existence, you are doing so with concrete achievements of lifting women and the society. When a woman is empowered, families are blessed and the society is better for it,” he said.

Senator OBA, who is the leader of the Akwa Ibom Caucus in the National Assembly and the Most Outstanding Senator in Nigeria, also pledged more financial and material support to the Female Youths Association (Purple Girls).

“Your President, Lady Edna Edwin has demonstrated purposeful leadership and leading you well. I am thrilled by the empowerment programme and the growing number of beneficiaries. I am going to contribute to ensure that you sustain the pace as well as reach out to more women,” he added.

The President of the Purple Girls, Lady Edna Edwin in her address thanked the God Almighty for giving her the vision and also the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel and wife, Dr. (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel for sustaining that vision through their encouragement and support.

Lady Edwin also appreciated Senator Bassey Albert for his personal presence at the event and for his goodwill and pledge towards the sustainability of their empowerment programmes and other activities.

She assured the female youths of more life-changing programmes in the coming years while urging them to remain focused and take their training programme serious so as to be able to give back to the society and also train others.

March past by the Female Youths

Highlights of the occasion was the graduation and empowerment of students from the Female Youth Academy with appliances/working tools which included sewing machines, hair dryers, desktop computers and cameras. Certificates were also awarded to them, as well as capital (start-up grant) to students from the business class.
