Support Governor Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda Senator Okon Urges A’Ibom People
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pioneer national publicity secretary, Senator Anietie Okon has called for massive support for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda.
Okon who spoke in an exclusive interview with Crystal Express in Uyo yesterday described the strides recorded by Governor Emmanuel in his first term as impressive and commendable.
The PDP stalwart traced the governor’s resounding victory in the last election to his outstanding performances, describing him as a focused and intelligent administrator.
Senator Okon who is also the leader of Akwa Ibom Elders Forum explained that what the governor needs most are prayers and solid support to enable him ensure the effective implementation of the Completion Agenda.
According to the senator, “we are now in an era where promises are fulfilled with ease. The governor promised us industries and about 18 have come on stream so far. He promised infrastructural consolidation and you can see that over 1780km of roads have been either completed, ongoing or nearing completion among other infrastructure. The governor promised Akwa Ibom people political inclusion and that too, he has effectively done by ensuring that opportunities are spread across board.’
Senator Okon explained that the ongoing peace and tranquility witnessed in the state is an off- -shoot of the personality of the governor who loves God and worships Him in truth and spirit.
In his words, “Akwa Ibom has been rededicated to Almighty God who has showered the state with unprecedented peace. The era of violent crimes are over and Akwa Ibom people in unison have accepted the only living God as the creator”.
He also urged youths to brace up for the opportunities opening up with the coming of various industries by acquiring basic and necessary knowledge to fit in and make a decent career and living.
Senator Okon also used the forum to appeal to the Federal Government to intervene and restore all connecting federal roads between Akwa Ibom and other neighboring states to ease the movement of people and goods mostly agricultural produce. He regretted that the terrible state of roads affect Akwa Ibom and her neighbours adversely.
“It is very sad that going to Calabar from Uyo is a very big burden with attendant risk because of the dilapidated condition of that road. In the same vein people can no longer go to Aba through Ikot Ekpene nor Umuahia through Obot Akara owing to death traps called roads. The Federal government must intervene now, restore the roads and save the economy of Akwa Ibom and her neighbours. A state like Akwa Ibom that contributes immensely to the coffers of the nation deserves better treatment and support from the Federal Government’
Senator Okon who declined comments on 2023 politics said he will speak at the appropriate time, noting that all hands must be on deck now to ensure the success of the Completion Agenda of the governor
