Uruan Paramount Ruler Proclaims Passage Of Central Uruan Clan Head

 

 

Activities marking the obsequies of late Clan Head of Central Uruan and former Paramount Ruler Representative, His Royal Highness, Edidem Engr Eyenowo Nicholas Eyo Ukpong 1 (JP), kicked off yesterday with the official proclamation of his demise by His Royal Majesty, Edidem Atakpo V, Rt Hon. Cosmas Bassey Nkanga, the Paramount Ruler of Uruan/Nsomm Uruan.

Making the proclamation at the Uruan Traditional Rulers Council Chambers in Idu, headquarters of Uruan Local Government Area, the Paramount Ruler said he was sad and in low spirit to proclaim the death of a great Traditional Ruler, a Community Leader, a peacemaker and a bridge builder as well as a cultural icon, His Royal Highness Edidem (Engr.) Eyenowo Nicholas Eyo g had transited to join his ancestors.

The event had the remaining three Clan Heads from Northern Uruan Clan, South East Uruan Clan and that of South South Uruan Clan in attendance.

The week long program of activities to mark his transition which kicked off yesterday with the official proclamation of his death, continues today Tuesday, November 19, 2019 with a Condolence Visit of the Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Rt Hon, Henry Isaiah Udofia to the Palace of the late Clan Head at Nung Oku, Uruan LGA by 12 noon.

This will be followed immediately with a similar Condolence Visit to the palace of the late Clan Head, by the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey.

Other prominent sons and daughters of Uruan Inyang Atakpor will thereafter take their turns to pay their last condolences to the departed monarch at his Palace at Nung Oku, Uruan LGA.

The late Royal Highness was born on January 1, 1949 into the royal family of Obong Eyo Essien Akpan Ibok, Nung Oku Uruan founding family of Mkpatim Oku Uruan and his late mother was Madam Nyong Essien Akpan Umoren.

He attended his primary education at St Gabriel’s Missionary School, Nung Oku from 1957 to 1964.
In the course of his occupational adventure, he attended several seminars, workshops and courses, enriching himself in education.

The late Royal Highness later obtained a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from the Rivers State Polytechnic between 1965 and 1973.

He was at a time a trader in Cameroon, Ikang and Akpabuyo before returning home to serve his people under the village headship of Etinyin Obong Etim Ubon as a village Secretary for about 3 years. His leadership qualities won him the love of his village people and he was elected the Village Head in 1991.

Due to his diligence and exemplary leadership he exhibited as a village head, he was later elected the Clan Head of Central Uruan in 2000 and six years later, the Akwa Ibom State Government appointed him the Paramount Ruler Representative in Uruan.

The event was well attended by all the village heads in Central Uruan as well as selected village heads from the other three clans in the local government area.
