Enoidem, Mfon Idung, Moffat, Others, Mourn Mercy Umanah’s Death

The National Legal Adviser, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Hon. Mfon Idung, Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Imo Moffat and the Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, Hon. Imeh Afia, have condoled with the Member Representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, Hon. Aniekan Umanah and the entire Umanah family over the demise of their mother, Late Deaconess Mercy John Umanah (Nee Ugoji) who died on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

 

They lamented in their messages of commiseration that the late Matriarch, who was a great woman and a mother to all shall greatly be missed.

 

The renowned Nurse, Mercy John Umanah, whose remarkable and invaluable imprints in Midwifery and Paediatric Nursing won her accolades both in her places of work and in the minds of her numerous patients, and rose to a Deputy Director of Nursing Services.

 

She made tremendous impacts in her job both as a practicing Nurse and Midwife, engendering quality service delivery. Spanning over a decade, she worked with several hospitals with Mercy Hospital, Abak being her retirement home.

While commiserating with the Federal Lawmaker, Hon. Aniekan Umanah and his family, the National Legal Adviser, PDP, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem said the great Matriarch of the Umanah’s dynasty will be solely missed as her transition has left a yawning gap that will be difficult to fill.

Barr. Enoidem averred that considering the deep community health services of late Deaconess Mercy Umanah, he received the news of her demise with mixed feelings.

 

He said,  “I received the news of the demise of your dear mother with mixed feelings.  Mixed feelings because we are aware that God has kept her long enough to raise all her children and mentor them into adulthood. Old enough to have grand children through all her children, but being mindful of the fact that there is no right age to lose a dear one”.

 

He equally acknowledged that she was a “great Christian with worthy Christian values which she brought to bear both in her public service as an outstanding certified nurse and midwife, and in her communal services, especially upon retirement”. He added that, “We have no doubt in our hearts that she lived a life worthy of eternity.  Therefore, our Lord that rewards the faithful with eternal salvation has kept a place for her in eternal glory”.

 

In the same vein, the Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Hon. (Elder) Mfon Idung, also condoled with his colleague – Hon. Aniekan Umanah, in the business of law making, and the entire bereaved family, saying that, considering the deceased invaluable contributions to the development of Nursing and Midwifery, her demise is a colossal loss to both the family and the health sector.

The lawmaker added that, “Our departed matriarch was a mother, a teacher,  an achiever, a woman of courage and a genius of our time. We shall continue to remember her generous advice, the legacies she has left behind, the ever loving hospitality to people around her and most especially her community health support programmes.

 

The lawmaker went further to describe the deceased as a great woman, a helper, a touch bearer, a mother of all and above all, a God fearing woman.  He prayed God to provide the family with the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

 

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Imo Moffat, also condoled with the deceased family. Dr. Moffat, describing the death of Late Deaconess Mercy Umanah as a great loss.

 

In a condolence message signed by him and sent to the family he posited that “the family has lost a rare gem, a loving and caring mother and an adviser.

 

“The vacuum created by her departure will be difficult to fill and all who associated with her will miss her good presence. We urge you to draw strength from the fact that she lived a meaningful life and left worthy legacies which you must all strive to protect in honour of her loving memory”.

 

He prayed God to grant the entire family and all other functional variables in the system the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

 

Describing the deceased as a mother of all, the Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Hon. Imeh Afia, explained in his condolence message that “No words or expressions are adequate to express the shock and feelings that the news of the death of Late Deaconess Mercy Umanah came with. Indeed, l continue to be traumatized over the great loss and the vacuum it has created”.

 

The chairman lamented that, the deceased was a woman with strong Christian virtues who was always ready to share her resources with others, adding that, “Mammy as she was fondly called was a caring and loving mother, a home builder, a strong family member and essentially a disciplinarian of repute.

 

While urging the deceased family to be consoled by their mother’s remarkable life and services to humanity, the chairman prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.

 

Numerous friends and associates have also sympathised with the great Umanah’s dynasty over the death of their mother and grandmother, wishing the deceased eternal repose.

The burial which took place over the weekend attracted the high and mighty from all walks of life including the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and wife, Dr, (Mrs) Martha Emmanuel.
