... Announces Scholarship For 40 Female Youths
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the construction of 9 kilometres more internal roads and the installation of street lights on Paul Ekpo Crescent, Emmanuel Ekon Avenue and Obot Emem Street in Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo.
Announcing the approval while commissioning internal roads in the estate, Governor Eno reassured the Akwa Ibom people of his resolve to complete all projects initiated by his predecessor to deliver the intended benefit and satisfaction to the Akwa Ibom people.
He directed the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, to activate all modalities in line with due process to ensure a three-kilometre extension on each of the completed and commissioned 1.8 km Paul Ekpo Crescent, 1.0 km Emmanuel Ekon Avenue, and 0.8 km Obot Emem Street to allow more residents of the area to enjoy the government’s infrastructural upgrade.
The Governor, who had earlier inaugurated a governing council for the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in Ikot Adaidem, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, with a declaration of state government sponsorship for five trainees from each of the 31 LGAs in the state, also announced an additional 40 slots for four groups of female cheerleaders at the commissioning.
This, the governor affirmed, was better empowerment for youths than regular handouts and a better way to reward their consistent support.

He continued, “I expect the leadership of the groups to immediately converge and work directly under the Office of the Deputy Governor. She’s a mother. She’ll be able to bring all of you together, and I promise, as things are happening, we’ll send some slots to you, and they will be shared across the board.”
Presenting an overview of the roads in the estate, Professor Ibanga said the three roads were direct labour projects inherited from the previous administration at the initial stages and had been completed to a specification of 8.5 m drain to drain width, 150 mm laterite sub-base, 150 mm crushed stone base, and 50 mm wearing course.
Personalities residing in the area, including former Nigerian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, Chief Assam Assam SAN, Member representing Etinan Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Obong Paul Ekpo and former Representative of the Abak Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, affirmed that Governor Umo Eno has made Akwa Ibom people the world over proud with his exceptional unifying and bipartisan leadership disposition.
Earlier in his welcome remark, the Chairman of the Uyo Local Government Transition Committee, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, commended the spread of projects and maintained that Governor Umo Eno was deliberate about ensuring all classes of citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.
