Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Pledges Partnership with State Assembly to Combat Insecurity
By Mercy Obot
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, has promised to synergise with the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) lawmakers to tackle insecurity issues in the state.
He made this known during a courtesy call with the 8th Assembly at the House of Assembly Complex on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
According to Mr. Waheed Ayilara, providing adequate security is one of the cardinal duties of every government official, enabling them to protect the lives and properties of citizens and reduce criminality in society.
Stating his purpose, the Commissioner said there is a need for the police to collaborate with the leadership and members of the Assembly in the area of boundary issues between the state and the neighbouring states of Cross River, Abia and part of Rivers.
Also, he highlighted other insecurity issues in the state, including the farmers-herdsmen crisis experienced in Ikot Ekpene, Obot Akara and Ikono, as well as cultism, kidnapping and other social vices happening in the state.

Ayilara expressed her commitment to ensuring peace in the state by effectively using the gunboats and vehicles recently donated to the command by the state governor to combat these social menaces in the state.
In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, while congratulating the Commissioner of Police for his recent posting to the state, assured him that the Assembly would partner with him through feedback as representatives of the people at the grassroots to ensure that the state continues to enjoy the peace other states clamour for.
He noted with delight that Mr. Ayilara was not a greenhorn in security matters when considering his rich profile, high level of exposure, and experience in policing, advising him to see to the enforcement of the law against herdsmen in the state.
