Bayelsa: Nigerian Navy Joins Fight Against COVID-19

The Nigerian Navy says it has assisted the civil authorities in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic at the maritime domain by ensuring that vessels that enter the country were properly checked and cleared to ensure they follow necessary Covid-19 protocols before they berth.

The flag officer commanding Central Naval Command in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Saidu Garba, stated this on Tuesday during the activities to mark the end of its 64 years anniversary celebration in the command’s headquarters.

Garba said right from the outbreak of Covid-19, the command has participated actively by ensuring that it keeps to the directives of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the fight against the pandemic.
He said: “We keep to the directives from the President and Commander-in-Chief by properly assisting the civil authority not only in controlling traffic but also in the maritime domain by ensuring that vessels that enter this country are properly cleared before they berth and we ensure that nobody enters the country without proper clearance and follow the necessary Covid-19 protocols.

“In that respect, apart from our operations out there, we have also commissioned isolation centre in Lagos where we keep not only our personnel but all those other people who have Covid-19 and are in need of care.

“Last week, we donated some palliatives and we are continuing that to some of the motherless children’s homes to assist them in this trying time.

“Nigerian Navy has participated actively in curtailing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country,” he said.
He reminded the officers and men of the command that Covid-19 is real, advising them to take responsibility in the fight against the pandemic by observing all the safety precautionary measures.
