The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari has died.
According to Press Statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President
(Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina on Friday, Mallam Abba Kyari died on Friday after battling to survive Covid-19.
The statement reads ” The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020. May God accept his soul.”.
According to President Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, “Mallam Abba Kyari will be buried later today in Abuja according Islamic rites.”
NCDC Covid-19 guidelines states that bodies of dead patients cannot be released to families and that all Covid-19 funerals will be discreetly handled by NCDC with no family or friends present so that their lives are not endangered.
The Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed had recently stated that corpse of those who die from Covid-19 cannot be claimed by families.
