Eket Paramount Ruler Hails Akwa Ibom NDDC Rep, Appeals For Investment In Mechanised Farming
The Paramount Ruler of Eket Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, His Royal Majesty, Edidem E. C. D. Abia, has commended Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for his outstanding performance and commitment to the development of the region.
During a courtesy visit to the palace recently, the royal father praised Apostle Nkono for recognising the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and synergy with traditional institutions, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and other relevant authorities. He expressed confidence that this approach will help the NDDC succeed in its agenda in the state.
“I am impressed with your leadership style, which prioritises inclusivity and partnership. This is the way to go, and I assure you of my fatherly support and guidance at all times,” the Paramount Ruler said.
The royal father emphasised the need for the NDDC to focus on investment in agriculture, particularly mechanised farming, to revive the economy and reduce dependence on crude oil. “Many lands are lying fallow, and we must prioritise mechanised farming to boost economic growth in the region. This will encapsulate sustainable farming practices and create jobs for our youth,” he said.
He also suggested that the NDDC should rehabilitate more public schools, emphasising the importance of education in the development of the region.

Apostle Nkono, accompanied by NDDC Directors, Eket Chapter Executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Commissioner’s aides, explained that the visit aimed to strengthen ties and promote development in the region. He solicited the royal father’s continued support and partnership to sustain the momentum for growth and progress in Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta.
He listed the NDDC’s areas of focus, including infrastructure development, human capital development, healthcare delivery, education, and environmental sustainability.
He commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his peace and unification agenda and pledged that the NDDC remains committed to working with government at all levels and traditional institutions to create and sustain an enabling environment for peace, economic growth, and development.
The entourage included Engr. Evong Evong, State Director, NDDC; Mr. Nobert Brown, Deputy State Director, NDDC; Eket APC Chapter Officers led by the Chapter Chairman, Pastor Ubong Okposin; and aides to the Commissioner.
The visit was seen as a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the NDDC and traditional institutions in the region, with a focus on sustainable development and economic growth.
