I Never Indicted AKHA – Ibiono Ibom Council Chairman
The Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Ekomabasi Akpan, has dislodged the accusations that he had indicted the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly over his current investigation with regards to misappropriation of council budget.
The council chairman said the report published in The Mail newspaper of Tuesday, March 10, 2020, was an attempt to cause disaffection and complicate his ongoing trial before the Committee of the House of Assembly.
Speaking with Crystal Express on Tuesday morning, Hon. Akpan stated that the allegation of misappropriation of council budget by some councillors ended up as a petition in the Assembly and that the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions was currently working on it.
According to the chairman, the committee had invited him for interrogation and later went to assess some of his projects in the council.
He explained that the committee was yet to make its official report on the matter and that he couldn’t have concluded that he was vindicated.
Hon. Akpan recalled that in the said interview with Crystal Express, he only said that the committee was still on the issue.

“The House of Assembly is filled with intelligent young men. They invited us, asked me questions which I answered and I handed over a comprehensive report of my activities in the council to them.
“They promised to come for facts finding which they did a few days ago through the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions. I took them round the projects I executed.
“They said I boasted among my close associates that I played my games well to ensure the committee buries the matter and clears me of all the charges. I want to say that this is a blatant lie because this is just a figment of the writer’s imagination”, the chairman explained.
He denied granting any interview to the newspaper. “I never granted my interview to The Mail newspaper.”
Hon. Akpan argued that the report on The Mail newspaper was a tactful attempt to cause enmity between him and the House Committee so that their report could have negative impact on him.
He however reiterated his confidence in the committee to do justice to its findings so as to put the matter to rest.
