In a landmark development in Akwa Ibom State, Evang. Mrs. Inemesit Maxwell Eduok has been elected as the new Chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Itu Local Government Area. This marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman to hold this position in the state and possibly beyond.
Party members and local stakeholders have widely praised Mrs. Eduok’s emergence.
They described her election as a new dawn for the PDP in the local government and the state, with many expressing optimism about the party’s future under her guidance.
She was declared the winner after she polled 31 votes from a possible 33 voters and was subsequently announced by the returning officer, Mr. Anietiente Abasi Isu, at Community Secondary Commercial School (COMSECOM) on Saturday.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Eduok expressed deep gratitude to the stakeholders, delegates and party faithful for their overwhelming support.
She reiterated her commitment to fostering unity within the party, enhancing its grassroots appeal, and leading a robust campaign for the upcoming elections.

She appealed for sustained support and collaboration, as it is the only way to ensure that the PDP remains a formidable force in the Itu local government area.
Local government stakeholders, including elective and appointed office holders, community representatives, and prominent PDP figures, have applauded Mrs. Eduok’s election.
They praised her strong history of dedication, integrity, and loyalty to the party. They expressed confidence that her previous experience at the ward level and as the Chapter Woman leader, a position she held until her election as Chapter Chairman, would enable her to make positive changes and enhance the party’s influence at the grassroots level.
The Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem remarked that Mrs. Inemesit Eduok’s emergence as the Itu chapter chairman of the PDP is a breath of fresh air, describing her as someone who has consistently shown her dedication to the party and the people, expressing optimism that her leadership will pave the way for greater success for the party in Itu Local Government.
Edidem, who described the event as peaceful and seamless, applauded other stakeholders and party faithful for ensuring a successful congress devoid of hitches.
He said the large attendance by stakeholders and others indicates the unity in the party and the people’s belief in the new and emerging leadership in Itu Local Government Area, maintaining that he has no doubt she would do the party proud.
Similarly, the chairmanship candidate of the PDP in Itu Local Government Area, Mr. Ubong Nkutt, has applauded members of the party for the orderly conduct of Congress to elect chapter officers and also congratulated the chapter chairman, Mrs. Inemesit Maxwell, and other members of the Executive Committee on their emergence, urging them to work for the party passionately and strive to leave indelible marks in the sands of time.
In the same vein, the Personal Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Protocol, Mr. Bassey Archibong, felicitated the newly elected executive committee in Itu Local Government, calling on the people to give them the necessary support as they cannot excel without the people’s support.
He thanked the governor for implementing a level playing field, which he said was the reason for the peaceful conduct of the exercise across the state.
