The city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State is playing host to eminent traditional rulers drawn from the six states of South South geopolitical zone of Nigeria, who are converging for a crucial security summit.
The three-day summit: Monday – Wednesday, December 2 -4, 2019 formally opens today, Tuesday, December 3, with a conference at the prestigious Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo.
It has the theme: Creating Synergy with the Governments of South South States towards ensuring a peaceful and Crime-free South South Geopolitical zone.”
A press release issued by the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee for the summit, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, who is the Paramount Ruler of Onna LGA, says the conference is organized by South South Monarchs’ Forum in collaboration with the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN).
It adds that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the host governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and his counterparts from Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Edo and Delta States are expected at the conference as the distinguished guests of honour and will deliver goodwill messages at the summit.
The epoch event, which has His Eminence, Nteyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, the Oku Ibom Ibibio and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs as the chief host, will have in attendance the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare; 11, Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi V; King Dandeson Douglas Jaja ll, Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom and Chairman, Rivers State Council of Chiefs and all paramount rulers within the South South geo-political zone.
The press release notes that other eminent royal fathers from across Nigeria to attend the summit are His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, Sultan of Sokoto, who is the Chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria; His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, Co-Chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria and His Royal Majesty, Alhaji (DR.) Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, Etsu Nupe, Chairman, Co-coordinating Committee, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.
The summit’s Keynote address will be presented by Dr. Ubong Essien Umoh, a senior lecturer in the Department of History, Consultant and Military Historian, University of Uyo.
It further states that the Chairman of South South Monarchs’ Forum, His Royal Majesty, King Edmond Daukoru Mingi XII, Amanayanabo of Nembe Kingdom is expected to lead the plenary session of the summit.
Reports on the activities of South South Monarchs Forum will be given coupled with paper presentations and general review of the security summit.
