Police Intercept 20 Bags Of Cannabis, Parade 17 Suspects In Bayelsa

 

 

Police in Bayelsa State have intercepted a car loaded with 20 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp along the East West Road axis of the state.

 

The state commissioner of Police, Mr Nkereuwem Akpan, while parading 17 suspects in Yenagoa on Wednesday, said they were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery to illegal possession of fire arms.

 

He said the safety highway patrol team of the force along East West Road by Zarama axis intercepted a jeep loaded with weeds on May 22, 2020 and the driver who was on military uniform zoomed off, but the team pursued the vehicle which the driver abandoned the car and ran away.

 

He said efforts have been intensified to identify the owner of the vehicle to arrest the suspect.

Also, the command has arrested 12 robbery suspects and five suspected gun dealers in the state.

 

He said, “On 15th May, 2020 at about 0830 hours, one Lucky Eniokon, 21 years, one David Samuel, 22 years and one Gift, surname unknown, members of a three- man robbery gang entered a tricycle at Yenezue-gene, Yenagoa and threatened the tricycle to take them to INEC Road, Kpansia axis of Yenagoa.

 

“Consequently, the armed robbers came out from the tricycle and started robbing customers and pedestrians at POS stand, the tricyclist zoomed off and alerted the policemen on patrol.

 

“We recovered various dangerous weapons from the 12 robbery suspects, including 14 locally made pistols, one dummy gun, two shot guns, one Beretta pistol, three. 9mm live ammunition, five live cartridges.

 

“We also recovered 20 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp along others.

 

“It is instructively to state that the command has also rescued kidnapped victims. Worthy of note is the rescue of the Shell Petroleum Development Company workers and the 80-year-old mother of the chairman local government council area, Madam Beauty Nimizuoa.” He said.
