Restoration Of Peace And Security Remains Our Topmost Achievements- Etim Ekpo Chairman

It is now a new dawn in the crisis torn Etim Ekpo local government area as the area beams with vibrancy with which the boundary town was once known for.
An elated Chairman of Etim Ekpo local government area, Hon. Udeme Eduo, who spoke with our Editors said Governor Udom Emmanuel’s determination to ensure that the state remains peaceful and united led to the series of discussions that forced the militants terrorizing the area to surrender their arms and embrace peace.
Today, according to the chairman, people who deserted the town in the wake of the insurgence are returning while his administration is doing all within his resources to fix some of the damaged facilities like markets and parks by the then militants at the peak of the crisis.
In his words, “One week ago, a committee of the State House of Assembly visited us and asked about the efforts we have made to bring life and development back to the area after the crisis, and I told committee our biggest achievement was the restoration of peace to the once crisis ridden area”.
We also told them of our efforts in ensuring security of lives as people can now travel freely through the affected communities to Abia or Rivers State without any form of molestation or fear of challenges at any time of the day.
Goods are now being transported with ease from Aba and Port Harcourt to Calabar and Uyo using same road since the Ikot Ekpene Aba road are impassable for now. So there is no more banditry and crime along that road and it is enough for a council to give kudos to itself”.
Citing other commendable achievements recorded by his administration, the council boss said, “We are looking inwards to give the Council a facelift we have connected water and electricity to the new council secretariat built by my predecessor in office. We are also encouraging our youths to engage in sports both as a career and leisure to engender peace and unity”
Hon Udeme Eduo, who highlighted the several efforts being employed by the state government to ensure better and meaningful life for the ex-militants, said the council will continue to create more opportunities for them to become self-reliant.
He described the oil processing mill donated by the wife of the Governor Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Emmanuel to Etim Ekpo women as one which has given the women a new lease of life, stressing that his administration will further assist the women with trucks of palm fruits to put the palm oil mill into maximum use for economic empowerment.
