Senator Bassey Albert Outlines Factors For Grassroots Development
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) has given insights on factors that will boost grassroots development.
Senator Albert, Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) wants the government to deepen integrated roadmap towards addressing the challenges of rural dwellers based on needs assessment.
The two-term Senator made the contributions when a bill for the establishment of ‘A National Integrated Rural Community Development Agency’ was presented on the floor of the Senate by Senator Stella Oduah recently.
The bill was read for a second time in December 2020 and referred to the committee on Agriculture and Rural Development for further legislative inputs.
The bill on “A National Integrated Rural Community Development Agency” seeks to boost infrastructural development as well as improve the living standard of the people in rural communities.
Senator Albert said, “It is onus on us to come up with laws that we believe will enhance, uplift, protect and defend the interest of our people in rural communities.
He commended the sponsor of the bill, Senator Stella Oduah and reiterated that it was long awaited as two-thirds of our population live in the rural communities.
