The Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey has charged student leaders to be good mentors during their tenure in office and after leaving the office.
Hon. Bassey made this charge yesterday while receiving Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association (NUESA) led by the out-going president, Engr. Ena John on a courtesy visit in his office at Assembly Complex, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
He maintained that student leadership should serve as a platform for selfless service and mentorship for anyone that is been given the opportunity to serve.
“Majority of politicians in the 7th Assembly and some holding positions in the government today are products of students’ leadership. I urge you all to make use of the opportunity as student leaders to be good mentors even after leaving office in student’s union; this will go a long way in making our society a better place”.

The assembly helmsman while congratulating the student leaders for their achievements during their tenure, expressed excitement for being found worthy for the honour.
Earlier, the president of NUESA, while presenting his administration’s scorecard to the Speaker, appreciated him for granting them audience and congratulated him for his achievements since assumption as the speaker.
Engr. Ena thanked the Speaker for his unrelenting efforts in supporting them both in leadership and in the course of their academic pursuits which make them to find him worthy to be selected among other dignitaries for the award.
The visit featured presentation of Award of excellence to the speaker.
