NDDC In The Last One Week
Royal Fathers To Sue Buhari Over NDDC:
A group of royal fathers from Bayelsa State under the aegis of Association of Royal Chiefs (ARC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately dissolve the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC to allow peace to reign and for the Commission to kick-start activities since the screening of the NDDC board more than a month ago. In a press statement signed recently by their chairman, Chief Nengi James and their legal adviser, Ebinyu George Aderigha, the group reminded the President that the Act that set up the NDDC does not recognize any IMC. “As persons interested in the development of the Niger Region, if this illegality is not corrected, we shall not hesitate to commence public interest litigation in a court to seek redress to correct the wrongs”, they threatened.
Group Attacks Senate Committee on NDDC:
A coalition of civil organizations had, Friday, December 6, 2019, stormed the premises of the National Assembly, Abuja, to register their grievances over what they said is a calculated attempt to destroy the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by those they described as “enemies and a looting cabal”. Coming under the umbrella of Guardians of Democracy and Development and Empowerment for Unemployed Youths Initiative, led by their spokesperson, Solomon Adodo, the group that also took their protest to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs where they submitted a petition, demanded immediate dissolution of the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta chaired by Peter Nwaoboshi.
Niger Delta Activists Supports NASS on NDDC Board:
An assembly of Niger Delta Activities has advised Members of the National Assembly to ignore all protests by “paid groups” to undermine the legality and integrity of the properly screened NDDC board, also calling on President Buhari and Sen. Akpabio to see reason. In a press release signed by their leader recently, Comrade Ebi Torofaowei, the group maintained that antics by protesting groups were merely to distract attention. “It is clear that their real intention is to procure the continuation of the illegality at the NDDC. It is a strange argument for illegality at the expense of the law and due process”, the statement disclosed.
