Osimhen: Nigeria’s Man Of The Moment
Suddenly Nigerians are now looking up to Victor Osimhen to lead the Super Eagles to much need victories. Fortunately, he has not let the nation down so far. He is scoring freely and keeping Nigeria’s hopes alive.
Gradually, he is blossoming into the role of the traditional striker that have made the Eagles great in the past. He plays in the mould of Rashidi Yekini, poaches like Julius Agahoawa. But there are fears he might fizzle out so soon as some great strikers have become in the past.
However,chas been coming to the rescue in the last two games to restore hope. In the game against Republic of Benin , he brought Nigeria to level term after the Beniones had taken over he lead. Equally, was he on song in Lesotho where Nigeria came from behind led him.
The 20-year old striker, if consistent, will carry the nations hopes into the 2022 World Cup. From his day with the 2015 Golden Eaglets, Osimhen had shown promising sign of growing into a world class striker.
He won the golden boot at the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup. So impressive was he that the Confederation if African Football named him 2015 Youth Player if the Year.
It took him a while to have a permanent shirt with the Super Eagles. He first played for Nigeria in a 3-0 victory against Togo on June 1, 2017.
But thereafter he was left out in the summer he played against Ukraine where Nigeria came from behind to force the home team to a 2-2 draw.
Surprisingly, he only played a total of 45munites in the3019 African Cup of Nations when he came in to replace injured Odion Ighalo in the third place match. But since then, especially with the retirement of Ighslo from international duties, Osimhen has become a permanent feature in the team. Suddenly, he has become the man if the moment.
