Sen. Sampson Appeals For Calm, Unity Among Constituents
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly, Senator Ekong Sampson has expressed deep concern over the raging range of exchanges among some ethnic groups in his Senatorial District, appealing for immediate calm and unity.
Sampson in a press statement titled “Unity not Division” and made available to journalists in Uyo on Friday explained that the diversity of the Senatorial District is a bridge- building instrument which must be harnessed to unite our people and pursue meaningful development regardless of tribe and place of origin.
According to him, “The Good Lord in His Divine benevolence has endowed our Senatorial District with distinctive and enormous resources – human and natural. We share threads. If we dissipate our energy pitted against one another, we will be inviting distractions and missed opportunities, instead of maximizing the advantage.”
The Senator advised the constituents to be bonded by the beauty of their history, mutual respect and the rich tapestry of thier abundance, and not burdened by the temper of divisive emotion.
He added, “This is the message I earnestly preach as I begin to reach out to our leaders and groups over the recent exchanges, consistent with my well-known attitude to bridge-building and peaceful coexistence.”

Senator Sampson also called on the people of Akwa Ibom South to rally behind the leadership of the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, in the collective task of promoting unity and sustainable development of Akwa Ibom State.
“I plead for cessation, please, so that we can all join hands with our leaders – the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno to unite and develop our dear State.”
