The great city of Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State will witness pomp and celebration on Saturday, December 7, 2019 as the grand coronation of His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, JP, NDM, Ambassador of Light, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, comes afoot.
The epic event holds at Ibibio Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo.
To this end, preparations are in top gear for the success of this epoch making event as all sons and daughters of Uyo Local Government Area, residents, in-laws, friends and well-wishers will roll out the drums to celebrate the monarch, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon.
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is expected as the Special Guest of Honour on the occasion while his Deputy, His Excellency, Mr. Moses Ekpo will be the Guest of Honour.
The Oku Ibom Ibibio, Patriarch of Ibibio People worldwide and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, His Eminence, Nteyin (Dr) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP will be the Royal Father of the Day.
The ceremony will be chaired by Obong Simeon A. Umoette, JP, a retired Comptroller of Customs, President of Uyo Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UYOCCIMA) and Chairman, Edidem’s Advisory Council of Uyo Traditional Rulers’ Council.
Other expected dignitaries to the event include, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District in the Senate; Senator John James AkpanUdoedeghe, a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Hon. Justice Godwin Abraham, Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State; Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Elder Effiong Essien, Head of the Civil service; Hon. Michael Enyong, Member Representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Hon. Anietie Eka, Member representing Uyo State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Others include Hon. Udo Ekpenyong, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Elder (Hon.) Imoh Okon, Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council; Prince Enobong Uwah, Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority; Prof. Chris Ekong, Department of Economics, University of Uyo and Hon. Monday Eyo, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Akwa Ibom State.
HRM Edidem Okon was elected the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, upon the demise of His Royal Majesty Edidem (Suyr.) Edem Silas Akpan who once, served as Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs.
According to the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, and Commissioner for Information in the State, Sir Charles Udoh, several activities have been lined up to make the day eventful in the history of Uyo Local Government Area, and indeed, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
