Why Are Lunatics Back On Uyo Streets?

There was a time when government in Akwa Ibom State made concerted efforts in evacuating lunatics from streets in the State to psychiatric hospitals for treatment.

But of late they are back in numbers and are roaming the streets.

The most degrading aspect is that some of them are left to die in the open and their bodies left to rot.

There have been two or three cases where such mentally challenged persons have died in the open and left to decompose.

Government should please reintroduce the policy of evacuating lunatics from the streets and giving them proper care.

The sight of seeing them roaming the streets is dehumanizing and government should urgently and promptly tackle the menace.
