‘We Are Ready to Conquer the World’
Nigeri
a could take a lot of positives from the Super Eagles draw with Brazil in last Sunday in Singapore.
The Super Eagles rose gloriously to the occasion of taking on one of the best teams in the world and did not disappoint.
Brazil paraded a full and determined squad without leaving anything to chance.. They used all thier best players, but the Super Eagles were not going to be intimidated. Rather Nigeria matched them toe-to toe.
Despite Brazil having a greater percentage of possession in the match, there was no doubt that the Super Eagles grew in confidence, stability and stature in the game. The Eagles did not sit-back to defend. Far from it! They took the attack to Brazil as well.
Nigeria attacked brilliantly and defended without packing-the-bus
The Eagles soared at will and were swift in attack. At least most of the attacks got to Brazil’s six-yard box. Brazil-keeper Ederson as called into action several times
Before the match, Brazil had labelled Super Eagles’defence as poor but were proved wrong.
Though Brazil did equalise it was more of aa goal-mouth scramble; not that they cut open the Eagles’ defence.
In midfield, the Eagles were mobile and fluid especially with Joe Aribo who stabbed home the opener. Aribo’s style is fantastic.
He once said he loves ‘driving with the the ball and getting up the pitch’. That exactly was what he did . He played with the agility of a sweeper and in the mould of France and Chelsea’s Kante. He could defend stoutly and equally force attacks.
Nigeria had another great positive in Keeper Francis Uzoho who pulled off several saves in the match. In fact, he made point blank saves to ensure Nigeria survived the match. Now Nigeria can count on him as safe hands to man the posts for a long time to come.
With the promising result , Coach Gerot Rohr is most likely to stay on after rumours he would depart after the match.
Having built such a formidable team, Rohr would not be in a hurry to leave but use it to try and conquer the world.
The result is a big statement from Nigeria that they are ready to take on the world. It is not an overstatement
