A philanthropist, Mr. William Emmanuel William, donated a health centre to Ikot Abiyan Village in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
It could be recalled that Sir William had in the past provided boreholes to three communities, built a community centre, renovated a church, donated food items to the community every year, as well as issued scholarships to disadvantaged students in the area.
The facility known as Abiyan Health Centre was commissioned by the Transition Committee Chairman of Nsit Atai, Rt. Hon. Emem Ibanga on Friday, March 15, 2024.
While commissioning the facility, the chairman said it was a thing of joy to have such a life-saving project sponsored by a good-spirited citizen of Nsit Atai.
She said she was delighted to carry out a function she noted would impact the lives of ordinary people in the area and beyond.
In her words, “We have been hearing of good-spirited individuals elsewhere doing great things like this. Today, God has blessed us with our own in the person of Sir William Emmanuel Williams.
I want to especially appreciate Sir William Emmanuel William and his wife, Lady Dorathy Williams, for blessing the people of Ikot Abiyan, Ward 3 and Nsit Atai as a whole with this life-saving project,” Emem Ibanga stated.
The representative of Sir William Emmanuel William, Elder Ita William, appealed to the government at all levels to help equip the place and post qualified personnel to make the place a world-class health facility.
Ita William disclosed that the donor had acquired more land for the expansion of the health centre but said he would require the state government to encourage him to do more.

The Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai, Edidem Peter Okon Effiong, said in his speech that he was thankful to God for someone like Sir William Emmanuel Williams and his wife, who would look at his community and make frantic efforts to solve their problems.
He pronounced the title of ‘Utuenikang Nsit Atai’ on Sir William Williams as a recognition for being a shining light to the people of Nsit Atai at large.
The village head of Ikot Abiyan, Eteidung Aniekanabasi William, informed the crowd that Sir William Emmanuel Williams had been providing a lot of amenities to the village, such as boreholes to Ikot Abiyan, Ikot Abat and Ikot Ntuen Isim.
Eteidung William also listed other things, including the renovation of a church building in the village, the provision of an electricity transformer to the community, and the donation of food items to the residents of the community every Christmas. The philanthropic gestures he made earned him the title of Ono Mkpo Inam 1 of Ikot Abiyan.
Also speaking, a foremost youth activist and immediate past Supervisor for Agriculture in the local government, Comrade Ubong Ita, assured the people that the health centre would be protected by the youths of the community.
Ubong said that Sir William Emmanuel Williams had found it easy to invest in the community because the youths were always on the ground to protect every good thing that he had brought to the community.
He therefore assured the donor that the health facility would also receive adequate protection to serve the purpose for which it was built.
